Pray Like Jesus

“One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, ‘Lord, teach us to pray...’"
(Luke 11:1, NIV)

During the next 21 days, the people of Kings Church will be coming together in prayer to seek God's heart for our church, our ministries, and our world. Using this prayer guide, we will be united in our focus as we pray toward the same ends each day.

If possible, join us in prayer daily at 11:01 AM (based on Luke 11:1), knowing that believers from across all Kings Church locations will be praying at that same time. If you can only pray for a few moments, fine. If you're able to pray for several minutes or longer, that's great, too. Don't worry about the length or the eloquence of your prayer; simply be authentic as you pray.

The prayers provided are merely samples. They are not intended to be recited as formulaic prayers, nor do they carry more power than your own authentic, heartfelt prayers. You can pray them, yes, but be sure to make them the expression of your heart and allow them to inspire your own personal prayers, too.

  • Monday, August 12. Unity in the Church

“I [Jesus] am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me through their message. I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one—as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me.
“I have given them the glory you gave me, so they may be one as we are one. I am in them and you are in me. May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me and that you love them as much as you love me." (John 17:20-23, NLT)

Prayer: Jesus, I thank you that I am part of the Church, a wonderful Body with You as the head. As You Yourself prayed, I pray that we as Your Church will be one. Bring us together in unity of spirit, even as we celebrate our diversity. Teach us to live in Biblical community with You and each other. Amen.

  • Tuesday, August 13. Kingdom Expansion

“This, then, is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.’” (Matthew 6:9-10, NIV)

Prayer: Father, I do pray that Your kingdom comes—that Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Indeed, Your kingdom has already come, but may your rule continue to expand as hearts and minds are turned toward you. May the Church, Your spiritual family, flourish as we boldly display Your love and proclaim Your message to the world around us. Amen.

  • Wednesday, August 14. Our Pastoral Staff

"Dear brothers and sisters, honour those who are your leaders in the Lord’s work. They work hard among you and give you spiritual guidance. Show them great respect and wholehearted love because of their work. And live peacefully with each other." (1 Thessalonians 5:12-13, NLT)

Prayer: Lord, while we are all called to be ministers, thank you for those You have specifically chosen and called to vocational ministry. For Pastor Brent and our entire pastoral staff, I pray for wisdom and guidance, for perseverance, for purity, and for blessing. Protect and strengthen their families, and fill them with an abundance of joy. Minister to their own spirits as they keep watch over those within the church. Equip them for effective ministry, even as they train and equip those within the church. Amen.

  • Thursday, August 15. Executive and Administrative Leadership

"Paul and Barnabas appointed elders for them in each church and, with prayer and fasting, committed them to the Lord, in whom they had put their trust." (Acts 14:23, NIV)

Prayer: Lord, we pray for wisdom and clear spiritual guidance for those who have been elected and appointed to leadership roles within the church. Infuse them with Your heart as they manage the affairs of the church and set the direction for us all. Thank you for the gifts you have bestowed upon them; help them to lead with integrity, humility, and love. Amen.

  • Friday, August 16. Conviction and Forgiveness

“Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” (Psalm 139:23-24, NIV)

Prayer: Father, I ask You to reveal areas of my life that are not honouring to You. Shine Your light on any areas of sin and disobedience; I humbly ask for Your forgiveness. Purify me and give me a heart that longs wholly after you. Amen.

  • Saturday, August 17. KC Kids Ministry

"One day some parents brought their children to Jesus so he could lay his hands on them and pray for them. But the disciples scolded the parents for bothering him.
"But Jesus said, 'Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are like these children.' And he placed his hands on their heads and blessed them before he left." (Matthew 19:13-14, NLT)

Prayer: Father, thank you for the children of the church and the blessing we experience through them. As You raise them up to become men and women of God, use our children’s ministry to support families and teach Your Word. Thank you for those who serve within our children’s ministry; bless them and encourage them as they prepare the next generation. Amen.

  • Sunday, August 18. Kings Student Ministries (KSM)

“For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.” (2 Chronicles 16:9, NLT)

Prayer: Father, thank you for those who serve within our youth ministry. As the teens of our church discover who You have made them to be, give them hearts and minds that are fully devoted to You. Help them navigate through the big challenges of life, recognizing that their true purpose and identity is rooted in You. Empower them to live pure, God-pleasing lives, defining the world around them while directing others toward You. Amen.

  • Monday, August 19. Salvation for Those Far from God

“All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” (2 Corinthians 5:18-21, NIV)

Prayer: Jesus, You declared that Your mission on earth was to rescue those who were lost and hopelessly trapped by sin, myself included. Thank you for saving me. As I accept Your mission as my own, help me to be Your ambassador within my family, my community, my workplace. Prepare hearts to receive Your life-changing message; take those who are lost and reconcile them to You. Amen.

  • Tuesday, August 20. Celebrate Recovery

“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” (Galatians 5:1, NIV)

Prayer: Jesus, thank you for the freedom that You offer. Thank you for using ministries like Celebrate Recovery to help people experience that freedom. Continue to break the chains of bondage, whatever that bondage may look like. Transform lives by the presence and power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

  • Wednesday, August 21. Those Experiencing Loss

"He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” (Psalm 147:3, NIV)

Prayer: Father, bring comfort to those with heavy hearts. We ask that Your presence will be particularly close to those who have lost loved ones. Sustain and encourage them through this difficult time. Allow them to experience the love and support of their church family as we shoulder the load together. Amen.

  • Thursday, August 22. Those Facing Financial Problems

"But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” (Matthew 6:33-34, NIV)

Prayer: Father, we know that You are a good God who gives good gifts to His children. We also know that You provide for us and that we can come to you with our needs. For those who are facing financial difficulties right now, we pray for Your provision. As they choose to seek You above all else, we look to You to restore them to financial health. Teach each of us to honour You with our treasure—whether great or small—and to manage our resources in God-pleasing ways. Amen.

  • Friday, August 23. Ministry Resources

"Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it." (Malachi 3:10, NIV)

Prayer: Lord, we seek Your provision for our church. Provide the resources to accomplish what You have called us to do. Recognizing that everything we already have comes from You and ultimately belongs to You, we ask You to multiply it and use it for Your glory. Pour out Your blessing as we learn what it means to honour You and trust You fully with our resources. Amen.

  • Saturday, August 24. Groups

“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favour of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.” (Acts 2:42-47, NIV)

Prayer: Lord, within the Groups of Kings Church, allow members to discover belonging, encouragement, and community. Use this ministry to nurture growth as people come together to connect with You, Your Word, and each other. May our Groups be safe, grace-filled environments where we experience meaningful relationships, accountability, confidentiality, and growth. Amen.

  • Sunday, August 25. Global Missionaries and Our Haiti Partnership

“Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.’” (Matthew 28:18-20, NIV)

Prayer: Jesus, You gave Your followers the mandate to make disciples of all nations. Continue to call men and women to follow You wherever You might lead them. Through Your Church, provide the resources needed to support missionaries around the world. Protect them and empower them by Your Spirit. In particular, we ask You to pour out a blessing on our partner church in Haiti. Through them, display the fullness of joy that can only be found in relationship with You. Amen.

  • Monday, August 26. Those Training for Ministry

“After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go. He told them, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves.’” (Luke 10:1-3, NIV)

Prayer: Lord, thank you for calling ‘workers for the harvest’. For those who have already responded and are currently preparing to serve in ministry, we ask that You thoroughly equip them as they study and train. Give them hearts of compassion for those they will serve. We ask, too, that you call more and more people to serve in ministry. Raise up those who will grow and lead Your Church in the years to come. Amen.

  • Tuesday, August 27. Those Facing Spiritual Oppression

“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armour of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.” (Ephesians 6:12-13, NIV)

Prayer: God, we recognize that there is a spiritual realm that interacts with the physical world. We also recognize that You are sovereign over everything and that all the powers of hell pale in comparison to Your glory. Through Your power and grace, we ask for deliverance and freedom for those who are experiencing spiritual oppression. Amen.

  • Wednesday, August 28. Ministry Volunteers

“Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.” (Ephesians 4:15-16, NIV)

Prayer: Jesus, as a believer, I know I have been uniquely gifted to make a difference for the Kingdom. Thank you for choosing to work through me. Help me to recognize my gifts and to use them in effective ministry. May You be glorified as I serve You by serving others. As I lovingly use the gifts You have already given, I ask for even greater gifts that I can use to serve You. Raise up others, too, who will use their gifting to build up the entire Church. Amen.

  • Thursday, August 29. Healthy Homes

“But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:15, NIV)

Prayer: Lord, thank you for the blessing of family. May You be glorified in the families of our church. Strengthen households, restore broken relationships, and equip parents with wisdom and guidance for raising children. For family members who are far from You, draw them toward You. Bring unity to blended families, and give grace and rest to single parents. Let Your love abound in our homes and in our church. Amen.

  • Friday, August 30. Those Facing Health Challenges

“Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress. He sent out his word and healed them; he rescued them from the grave. Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind.” (Psalm 107:19-21, NIV)

Prayer: Lord, for those dealing with physical, medical, or mental health issues, we ask for Your healing touch. We believe in faith that You have the power and authority to restore complete health. We also trust You, knowing that You provide the strength and grace we need from day to day. We pray that You make the glory of Your power and presence known. Amen.

  • Saturday, August 31. Government

"I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity." (1 Timothy 2:1-2, NLT)

Prayer: Father, I choose today to pray for my political leaders. For them, not against them. Whether or not I always agree with them, I pray for your blessing upon them and their households. Help them to lead with integrity of heart, with skillful hands, and with an awareness of Your leadership in their lives. Give them the wisdom and grace they need to govern effectively. Amen.

  • Sunday, September 1. Spiritual Hunger for Revival

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” (Matthew 5:6, NIV)

Prayer: Lord, may there be an increased hunger for more of You. May Your Church experience a deeper engagement with Your Word, along with greater faith and obedience to Your will. Begin a new work within us that will spread throughout our church, our region, and our world. Amen.
